RESPONSIBLE PET ADOPTION
We are here to help match you with your ideal canine companion!
DILIGENT DECISIONS
Part of our mission is minimizing poor matches and high return rates. This can only be achieved when adoption is diligently approached with multiple factors for both dog and humans considered. For this reason, we do not promote dogs through social media posts or advertising campaigns. We much rather share success stories after placement instead!
All NHPAS adoptions are processed with the human/household considered first and foremost - this means we do not take applications on specific dogs, we do not promote dogs at public events, and we do not ask "is this the right home for this dog".
Instead, we ask "is this the ideal dog for this family?" Take a look below to learn more about our alternative pet adoption process and how each step is designed to provide guidance and support to potential adopters.
THE PROCESS
STEP 1
CONSULTATION
The process begins with a sit down meeting with a NHPAS professional to identify your family's specific needs! We will discuss your household, lifestyle, and personal preferences in a canine companion.
STEP 2
PREPARATION
Potential adopters attend our RESCUE ME! Seminar in preparation for adoption. We will be discussing what to expect with adoption, how to successfully integrate your dog at home, vital troubleshooting, and more!
STEP 3
IT'S A MATCH!
Once adopters are vetted and have attended preparation education, families will be matched with a selection of potential pups that fit their needs. Adopters then participate in an introductory private training lesson before taking home their pup!
STEP 4
FOLLOW UP
New adopters are asked to attend 4 group lessons to learn how to appropriately work alongside their dogs, maintain previous training, and ensure everyone stays on track! Zoom alternatives offered for adopters outside the immediate area. A great way to address problem areas and set new goals too!
